Many people look at my needle felted pet portraits and just assume that it is painted. That is, until they get close.
To needle felt, you need a few things:
- colored wool
- needle felting needle(s) [needles with barbs that go downward]
- two frames
- background fabric
- foam
- lots and lots of patience!
I start out by working with my client to make sure that cropping and background color is correct.
From there, I do an outline on the stretched out background fabric. The rest is all felting!
To felt, I just take wisps of colored wool (often mixed with other colors) and stabbing them through the fabric on the working frame and into the foam pad below. I stab, stab, stab, stab, stab, etc. You get the idea.
